What is an EVSE?

An EVSE is an electrical device capable of providing electricity to charge electric vehicles. Electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) is the hardware that delivers energy, from an electricity source, to charge an EV battery. It is often referred to as the charging station and sits outside of the car, or as part of a charging cable.

The charger in the car converts power entering the car from AC to DC. Faster EVSE that use DC power do not require an internal charger as the power is directly fed into the battery without requiring conversion.

How much does it cost to set up an EV Charging Station?

Installation costs for an EV charging station vary based on a number of factors. Here are the main factors our technicians come across that determine the cost of installing m an EV charger:

1. Charger Location

There are two common locations for an EV charging station to be installed, in your garage or on your driveway. The main pricing consideration with regards to location is the distance from the charging station to the switchboard and if any new cabling needs to be run.

2. Output capacity of the EV charger

Chargers with a high output require a higher grade of wiring to support the charging infrastructure. Depending on the wiring currently installed on the property, new higher grade cabling may be required.

3. If you need to purchase a charger

Most of our customers purchase a charger when they purchase their vehicle, however that is not always the case. You may want to install a 2nd charger or new charger. If you need help with purchasing a charger for your vehicle we can help.

EV Charger Install Cost

Charger – $1,000 – $2,500

Install – from $600+

Home EV chargers range between $1000 $2500, we can help source this for you.

A typical installation price starts at $600 for a safe connection to mains power and a check of your main switchboard. If cabling capacity needed to be increased or the location required a new cable to be run, the scope of the job would increase.
